Tianguis
Mexico City
Inspiration image
'Tianguis' are what we call street markets in Mexico City, the city where I grew up. They are an important part of our popular culture. For this series, I am reproducing in ceramic some of the iconic items you can purchase -or use- there, which are typically made of plastic. My intention is to maintain the aesthetic but with a more sustainable approach.
Non plastic colander
Gold luster on slip cast porcelain, with black tiny ball link chain.
$100 USD
These salt and pepper shakers are some of the iconic items you see in mexican street markets or 'tianguis'. They are part of Mexico’s popular iconography. Their playful aesthetic typical of colorful plastics, is reproduced in ceramic, reducing our exposure to micro plastics while ingesting food. My husband and I gifted these during our wedding party in Mexico City, as party favors.
Saleritos
Glazed porcelain.
