PELTRE
2012, NEW YORK

Natalia Porter presents “A tribute to peltre” at The MoMA Design stores in NYC, as part of its “Destination series” a curated exhibition of international design, in this instance featuring Mexican design.
Peltre, known as enamelware in the USA, is one of the most popular materials found in local markets all over Mexico; a highly used product due to its efficiency and affordability. For this collection Natalia mimics this material in a variety of styles to pay tribute to this iconic product used in Mexico.

WITS RING in "peltre" colorway.
The design of the cast ring is based on a rubber toy found in a gum ball machine. Through the transformation of material, beauty and worth are uncovered in an object once seen as having little value. Materials: Cast brass with an enamel coating.
RUBBER BAND NECKLACE in "peltre" colorway.
Rubber hair bands are held together by a thin hair/steel thread, reversing the way they are normally used. Materials: Rubber bands, nylon coated cord, sterling silver clasp .
POM-POM NECKLACE in "peltre" colorway.
Calculated groups of assorted pompoms relate to one another by size, color, and texture to make balanced pieces that are lightweight and cozy. They are also reminiscent of our beloved "peltre" enamelware. Materials: Fabric pompoms threaded, sterling silver magnetic clasp.
SPRIAL RING in "peltre" colorway.
Polishing spirals used by jewelers are combi- ned with castings of these spirals, and held together by a thin silver thread. The tool is used as the decorative element rather than to polish the metal components. Materials: Cast brass with an enamel coat.
PIN NECKLACE in "peltre" colorway.
Sewing pins are attached to create a halo of polkadots, a way not only to mimic but also to venerate the blue enamelware known as "peltre" in Mexico.
